8 Feb
One of the most common things visitors do whenever they visit London is to see a West End show. A report by says that, the total number of  visits  first exceeded 12 million in 2002 and 13 million in 2007! (Amazing) That’s an impressive record for the West End theatre’s and not to mention, huge proceeds from West End theatre tickets sales.
There has been a neverending number of renowned television stars on the London stage since the 90’s. The phrase, West End Theatre stands for traditional but professional theatre, staged in the huge theatre’s of London’s “Theatreland”,the West End.
Slight History
The History of West End Theatre started around the 1500’s when the first theatre was built in Shoreditch by a man called James Burbage. Since then, a huge number of theatre’s opened thanks to the Theaters Act 1843; which eased the restrictions on the practice “plays”.  The theatre construction boom was nonstop until about the beginning of the First World War.
In the 1950s and 60s, most plays were shown in private theatre clubs in order to dodge the restrictions then, by the Lord Chamberlain’s office. Finally, the Theatre’s Act 1968 got rid of censorship of the Stage in the U.K and since then, a huge number of film actors wants a piece of the action in West End productions and plays.
West End Shows
West End Theatre ticket sales for a show determine how long the show will continue to run. Musicals most of the time, tend to have more lengthy runs than dramas. Reports say that the most extended running musical in West End history is “Les Miserables”. It surpassed “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Webber which closed in 2002 after  running for 8,949 shows and 21 years! And it is now believed to be the longest running West end musical of all time.
Other long running shows include  Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers and Andrew Lloyd Webbers’s ‘The Phantom of Opera’. But to top it all is Agatha Christie’s play “The Mousetrap” is the longest running show in the world! It has been showing as of 1952.
